DISCIPLESHIP ESSENTIALS 1

SESSION 8

Session 8: Serve God’s Dream

Summary of Video Content

  • Discipleship: the call from Jesus and our response to follow Him. (Luke 9:23)
A disciple will serve “God’s dream” that all nations of the world come to Him.

  • The book of Revelation is a “history of the future” where we see the fulfillment of God’s dream. (Rev. 5:9, 7:9-10, 11:15, 14:6,19:1)

  • The gospel is to be preached to all nations (Matt. 24:14). Revelation tells us that the job got done! Who did it? The disciples of Jesus - beginning with His first followers and now, the commission is ours to complete.

  • Will we be the people who do not solely live for themselves but live for the purposes of God? (2 Cor. 5:15) A people who will generously give of themselves in time, energy, resources to see that the gospel goes to everyone, everywhere?

  • Practical steps towards serving God’s DREAM.
    Do
a mission trip, local or overseas. (Mk 16:15, Jn 4:35)
Reach for the reward for serving God’s dream. (2 Ti 4:6-8, Ph 3:14, Lk 18:29-30)
Eye on eternity, live beyond the temporal. (Ps 39:4-5, Ecc 3:11)
Ask God to help you see what He see and feel like Him. Ask for the nations. (Mt 6:21)
Make a faith promise as part of the mission vision of Imagine Nations Church.

Discussion

  1. The wide-awake dream of a man or woman who envisions a future vastly different and better than the present, brings hope and is highly motivational. Example: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., USA civil rights movement, “I have a dream.”

Think for a moment of the world as it is today and list it’s many problems and injustices. Then switch your thoughts to God’s dream for the future and the change that comes as the gospel advances in the earth. Are you aware of instances where the gospel has dramatically changed culture?  (e.g. Welsh Revival, Vanuatu.)

  2. Ps. Jack quoted Robert Moffat: “We have all of eternity to celebrate our victories, but only one short hour before sunset in which to win them.” We may be at different stages of life, but the truth remains: we all have but one life to live.

What practices do you have or could you put in place to ensure that you give God your best while you remain on the earth? What things do you do now with eternity in mind?

  3. Which of the five practical steps: DREAM are you focusing on now? What’s next?
