SESSION 6

Session 6: others
SUMMARY OF VIDEO CONTENT

Story of General William Booth and his Christmas message sent via telegram to a gathering of the Salvation Army officers. It contained only one word: others.

This is the culture God has placed on Imagine Nations Church - outward, not inward, not “me focused”. Not self-absorbed consumer Christians concerned solely about their own needs. Consumed not consumer Christians, living for the glory of God and the good of others.

Acrostic for life: OTHERS

O - Opposite of what the old nature wants - “me first”.

T - “To”, to live to give, to serve, to share. Mark 10:45

H - How Jesus lived when He was here on earth. For the glory of God and the good of others. Is there a better way to live than to live with the mindset of Christ?

E - Each and every soul is priceless and precious. All people have value, God is not willing that any will perish. We know the value of something by what someone is willing to pay for it. Think of the price God paid when He sacrificed His Son. John 3:16

R - This is what living a rich life is all about. Rich is not about money in the bank but about using and spending my life. Luke 12:16 -21 “I” and “my” is the repeated, self-focused theme of this passage.

S - My life is a seed. A life given up for God out and poured out for others. John 12:24

DISCUSSION

  1. Review the story of General William Booth and his one-word telegram. If you were limited to a one-word telegram (or sms/email) today, what word would you use to describe what our Christian walk is supposed to be?

  2. Some may feel challenged by the phrase “consumed not consumer Christians.”

What might be some characteristics of “consumer Christians”?

What does the Bible teach us about our personal needs and desires? What are we supposed to do when we have needs of our own? (List at least three things the Bible tells us to do.

Describe a “consumed” Christian. Do you know someone like this?

  3. What are some of the characteristics of a person who “lives for the glory of God and the good of others”?
