Session 2: unity
SUMMARY OF VIDEO CONTENT
Unity described in Psalm 133:1-3 PT- “heavenly harmony” -the precious power of unity.
Unity is having feeling for and acknowledging we affect one another. 1 Cor 12:26
Unity means no one is left out and our task is to encourage and build each other up in our faith. 1 Thess 5:11
Unity helps us see that we all play a part in that which is bigger than ourselves: Christ’s Church in the earth.
Unity takes effort. Eph 4:2 “endeavor (make every effort, eager, faithful to guard, do your best) to keep the unity.” It begins with humility, longsuffering, and we must work at it.
Make note of those who cause divisions and offenses that affect the unity of the believers. Rom 16:17
Unity is founded upon our being together in Christ. Eph 2:4
Ecc.4:9-12 Two are better than one. Three benefits of being together in unity. a) Our work is better, we can accomplish more. b) Our walk is better, lifted if we fall. c) Our warfare - fight against the enemy.
DISCUSSION
Read Psalm 133:1-3 from two or more Bible translations. What thoughts about the unity of believers stand out to you?
Unity is fueled by a recognition and appreciation of fellow believers in Christ. What are some ways we can appreciate and build up other believers? 1 Thess 5:11
Unity means everyone belongs and everyone has a part to play in the Body of Christ which is something bigger than our solitary selves. What do you feel is your best contribution and how has it helped the church?
Unity doesn’t mean we always agree on everything. What are some ways you have found helpful when you disagree or are misunderstood by another Christian?
Review Ecc 4:9-12 and the three benefits of being together in unity. Can give an example of one or more of these benefits from you own experiences?
